Farewell Sweet Lou. May you forever be known as a manager who loved umpires, and especially loved to give them giant bear hugs.

Eddie Vedder, Chris Chelios and John Cusack at last nights Cubs game. Seriously not trying to make this a Pearl Jam exclusive tumblr, but damn, the band does a ton of sports related shit.

The Baseball Project - Phenom
The minimalistic, folk-styled “Phenom” affectionately describes Strasburg’s meteoric rise to the majors at 21 years old, just one year after being drafted. Singer and guitarist Steve Wynn, who wrote “Phenom,” said he wanted to write the song from the pitcher’s imagined perspective, which would be “a little wary of all of the early praise, a little fearful that the glory and the magic could fade away at any time and merely wanting to keep his head down and begin a distinguished, long career.”

“Ty Cobb” was originally titled “Hot Rod Death Toll”, but the lyrics reminded Shepherd (bassist) of the infamous baseball player Ty Cobb. He holds the all-time career batting record (.367), but he is also well-known for his womanizing, alcoholism and racism. The song is infamous for its 21 utterances of the word “fuck” second only to “Big Dumb Sex” (36 utterances) among Soundgarden songs.

How About that!

Saturday mornings before I started watching the game of the week, I’d have to watch Mel Allen and “This Week in Baseball” The show is still on, but it just isn’t the same without Allen. They also used to show it at Riverfront Stadium before the games.
1990 World Series Champion Cincinnati Reds with “Reds Hot”. The best part is the clothes these guys are wearing.
